Single-Stream Recycle Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines carefully.

Indian River Shores’ New Recycling Program
All residents will be receiving a 64-gallon single stream recycling container during the last two weeks of October; Please put your old 18-gallon bins to the curb for collection on your regular recycle day. Single stream recycling container service will begin on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. For back door service, please make sure your 64—gallon recycle container is visible from the road. Please follow the recycling guidelines printed on the lid of your 64—gallon recycling container. All recycle items need to be inside the container with the lid closed. For all items that do not t in the recycle container, please call 772.562.6620 to set up a special pick up.

You can now place all recyclables in one container

  • Opened mail and greeting cards
  • Paper egg cartons
  • File folders
  • Blueprints
  • Paperboard boxes
  • Magazines, brochures and catalogs
  • Newspapers and inserts (no bags)
  • Corrugated cardboard and paper bags
  • Paperback books
  • Tubs
  • Jugs
  • Cans (do not crush or flatten)
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Clean, aluminum foil (2” larger) and pie pans
  • Loose metal jar lids and bottle caps
  • Paper milk/juice cartons (no foil pouches, do not flatten)
  • Empty aerosol cans (no caps)

Unacceptable Items

  • Scrap metal
  • Tyvek envelopes
  • Needles or syringes
  • Frozen food, ice cream or frozen fruit containers
  • Mirrors, ceramics or Pyrex
  • Light bulbs, plates or vases
  • Drinking glasses, window glass
  • Hazardous or bio—hazardous waste
  • Plastics other than those listed
  • Tissues, paper towels, napkins
  • Waxed paper or waxed cardboard
  • Stickers or sheets of address labels (afxed address labels and stamps ok)
  • Styrofoam or paper to-go containers
  • Diapers or hazardous materials (such as needles, diapers and other sanitary products)
  • Hazardous waste (such as paint, car batteries, and batteries)

No need to remove

  • Paper clips
  • Metal fasteners
  • Stamps
  • Rubber bands
  • Address labels
  • Spiral bindings
  • Staples
  • Plastic tabs
  • Tape wire
